Padang Padang is the small crescent you reach by squeezing through a cleft in the cliff and down a staircase, the beach that appeared in Eat Pray Love. It's tight, popular, and best in the morning when the tour buses haven't landed. Just north, Suluban Beach sits in sea caves directly below the Uluwatu cliffs, a dramatic add-on if the tide cooperates.
Jimbaran is the calm bay with fishing boats on the sand and rows of beachfront grills serving seafood dinners as the sun sets. Seminyak, up the west coast, runs long and flat, fringed by beach clubs and boutiques, and walks out cleanly toward Canggu at dusk.
